The Twelve Apostles were created by erosion. The stormy Southern Ocean and blasting Antarctic winds have gradually eroded the softer limestone, forming caves in the cliffs. The caves eventually became arches and when the arches collapsed they left these giant stacks. Despite the name the 12 apostles, there are only 8 left standing today.
