Australia's indigenous peoples have long observed "firehawks" spreading wildfires throughout the country's tropical landscapes. These birds feast on the insects and wildlife flushed out by fire and amazingly pick up burning embers and drop them into unburnt bush to spread the fire and control the food supply.
